Lorraine Beacom and Matt Wild get Married
8th May 2004
Ewhurst church was a beautiful setting for the wedding ceremony, with a small congregation of family and friends. Luckily Lorraine and Matt had enlisted the help of a choir for the hymns ( a large proportion of us claimed to be dreadful singers) and at one point an unexpected extra half verse from them provided some light relief in contrast to the emotional vows.
After the ceremony we headed back to Matt and Lorraine's house for champagne and photographs, officially carried out by Simon, but with plenty of competition for most vocal photographer by Ross.
The final venue of the day was nearby Denbies wine estate where we enjoyed a talk about the vineyard (geology; fantastic!), a tour of the wine-making facilities and perhaps most popular of all, a wine tasting. Dinner was excellent and the speeches entertaining - quite a double act from the best men!
Aside: On the talented Beacom family. Lorraine made her own and Joanne's tiaras, Lorraine's mum made Joanne's dress and Lorraine's auntie made the cake. All this, and a level of planning normally associated with state visits to warring countries meant that as guests all we had to do was express a vague intention of showing up and we found ourselves whisked from airport to B&B, to church and back again. In all, a lovely day I was delighted to be invited to. Thanks to the new Mr and Mrs Wild and many congratulations.
