About Dr and Mrs Rock

We are oil industry ex-pats living in Houston, Texas. Geology has played a large part in our lives; hence the website name. The site started as a way to share our wedding photos with family and friends when we moved to New Zealand from Norway and it evolved as a kind of travel journal. Nowadays we share photos mainly through Facebook so decided to try blogging on for size.

The main blog topics are likely to be children, travel and ex-pat life.

Kirsty

I'm British (half English, half Scottish), formerly a geophysicist and now stay-at-home mum to our two small kids. I do the writing, including the html. I still enjoy yoga, surfing and snowboarding, but in very small doses these days. I'm more likely to be found cooking, baking or attempting to keep the garden under control in between reading stories and playing in the park. I find being a mum fascinating, entertaining and rewarding. In parenting, as in life, I try to follow my instincts but often find my inner scientist taking over. She's still collecting data diligently but hasn't yet found a rational solution for the toddler.

Niall

Niall is Irish and works as an Exploration Manager for an American oil company. He enjoys rugby, surfing and skiing and likes making up silly songs and teaching his children to say "arse" in an Irish accent. He loves being a dad, but can no longer watch any medical drama involving children. Niall takes most of the photographs and keeps the website on track by exercising his managerial skills to "encourage" me to keep writing.

Éila

Éila was born on June 29th, 2006. She's very outgoing and loves playing with her friends.

Cian

Cian was born on March 13th, 2008 and is a bit small and skinny but very active. He likes climbing stairs and dancing to techno music.
