About Niall and Kirsty
Niall takes the pictures, Kirsty writes the html. He's Irish, I'm British; we're both geoscientists. We love traveling, geology, watching rugby and taking part in all sorts of outdoor sports, often all at once.
We enjoy surfing and kayaking to a fairly low standard. We like walking; I prefer uphills and Niall prefers down. I snowboard, he skis. He plays rugby, I practice yoga.
In June 2006, Éila came along and her little brother Cian was born in March 2008. They brought a few changes, including much less spare time to tinker with the website!
These days Niall still makes a living from his hobby while I ditched geophysics to stay home with the two kids. We both still find our "work" very rewarding and although we don't get to do as much sport or travelling as we used to, we're looking forward to introducing the kids to some of our favourite things when they get old enough to appreciate them.
About the site
Dr and Mrs Rock (the name) was dreamt up by Emer, Niall's sister. Geology has played a large part in both our lives and it's thanks to the oil industry that we first met, so we think it's quite appropriate. Plus, all the "mccormack" domain names were already taken.
The site started out as a tool for our family and friends to view our wedding photos when we moved to New Zealand from Norway. Since then we've lived in London (briefly) and are currently settled in Houston. Now Niall and I are both on Facebook, we share our pictures there instead so I have turned this site into more of a blog.
